Professor Manfred Niekisch will introduce the HIELC 2013 Audience to the Current Status of Fisheries

Professor Manfred Niekisch, advisor to the German Federal Government on issues of nature conservation (German Advisory Council on the Environment – Sachverständigenrat für Umweltfragen – SRU) and Director of the Frankfurt Zoological Garden will deliver the introductory speech on the second day of the second Hamburg International Environmental Law Conference on Friday, September, 13th.

As the second conference day will focus on the legal issues going along with international measures to combat overfishing, there is a strong need for information on the current status of world fisheries. Professor Niekisch will introduce the latest statistics on fish stocks to the audience and inform it about the factual issues a sustainable fisheries policy is confronted with. His speech will lay the factual basis necessary to understand the legal discussion that follows it.
