 HIELC 2019 addresses the topic of responsibility of states on an international as well as on a national level. Responsible maritime governance will be analyzed and discussed by internationally renowned experts in three panels: green / responsible shipping, port state responsibility and resource responsibility.

Fourth Hamburg International Environmental Law Conference (HIELC), 4-5 April 2019

While the previous conference (entitled ‘A Sea Change for Sustainable Ocean Resource Governance’) focused on the aspect of sustainability, HIELC 2019 aims to develop, or link respectively, ‘sustainable maritime governance’ to ‘responsible maritime governance’ by addressing topics as Green/Responsible Shipping, Port State Responsibility and Resource Responsibility. High ranking academics and practitioners will highlight crucial aspects in their presentations, which are to be followed by discussions. The online registration is now open!

We are deeply honoured to announce that Professor Vladimir Vladimirovich Golitsyn, President of the International Tribunal for the Law of the Sea, has kindly accepted our invitation to open the HIELC 2016 with an address of welcome.

Proceedings of the HIELC 2013 are being shipped

The proceedings of the second Hamburg International Environmental Law Conference 2013 will be shipped to the conference participants these weeks. On 351 pages the proceedings put forward proposals for solving legal challenges in International Law, European Law and domestic law. Third Hamburg International International Environmental Law Conference in 2016

Our overall subject in 2016 will be the conflict between the use of resources (especially in the area of energy law) and (marine) environmental protection with a special focus on sustainability. These areas of tension will be outlined in the keynote lecture.
